The Once and Future Hero | auroraborealis's Blog

John McCain has not only become what he hated, he has exceeded it to a degree that he has become a charachiture of what he hated. John McCain was a hero and his legacy deserves better. John McCain needs to stand up and once again be that hero. He needs to wipe the slate clean, speak out against the dirty, negative tactics he's using and start running a clean campaign on the issues. It may seem a little absurd at this point, but he's got nothing to lose and everything to gain. He can send a message to the country, and to future campaigns, that this country deserves better than to be lied to and manupilated. The problem with what the House Republicans did is that they stalled the bill long enough for the credit markets to freeze up tight. The world financial markets are so complex that there isn't a single person, or group of people who know how they work. And without fully knowing how the work, fixing them is an extremely difficult task. The importance of the bailout bill was to show leadership. To say "We are the United States, leaders of the free world and in a crisis we stand together." We didn't do that. We blinked. The markets falling is a vote of no confidence in the leadership of the free world. I have voiced the opinion here that I believe that having both the legislative and executive branches of our government being all from the same party is a bad idea. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and if you take away the checks and balances things always get out of control. But right now the chance the US has to get out of this alive is with a cohesive government where all parts are working together. Our government has to be able to react very, very quickly to everything that gets thrown at us in the coming months in order to stay a world leader. Now is not the time for bickering. Bickering will kill us. Now is the time to stand united in the face of the greatest threat this world has ever know. Now is the time to stand up and say I am an American--not a Democrat, not a Republican, but an American. At this point it doesn't matter how we got here, the point is that we are here. A new President will be inaugurated on January 20th. Until then, I stand squarely behind my President, George Bush. I will trust his leadership and I will be willing to make any sacrifices he asks of me for the good of this country. True bipartisanship is the only way out. "A house divided against itself cannot stand" --Abraham Lincoln "I'd rather lose a political campaign that lose a war" --John McCain Well, Senator McCain, we are at war, and the enemy is us, and our country needs a hero. Still up for the job?
